If your birthday is in February before 19 February, your star sign is Aquarius. From 19 February onwards it is Pisces. The changeover can move by a day in some years, so for a birthday right on 19 February it's worth checking the year.
February zodiac sign dates
- Aquarius: 20 January to 18 February
- Pisces: 19 February to 20 March
Where the Sun really is in February
The Sun is in Capricornus until about 16 February and in Aquarius after that. February is one of the few months where the sign and the constellation are a full step apart: an Aquarius birthday in early February falls with the Sun in Capricornus.
The February gap between sign and constellation comes from the slow wobble of the Earth's axis. The zodiac signs and constellations guide explains why Aquarius and Pisces have drifted, and Ophiuchus is the one the signs leave out.
What is in the February evening sky
In February Orion is still high after dark and Gemini is overhead later in the evening. Leo starts to climb out of the east by about ten o'clock, the first sign of spring in the sky.
Aquarius and Pisces in the sky
The brightest point of Aquarius is Sadalsuud, and of Pisces, Alrescha. Both are drawn in the series of twelve Aquarius constellation print and Pisces constellation print, in near-black, gold and warm ivory.
Aquarius and Pisces belong to different elements: the zodiac elements guide sorts all twelve signs into fire, earth, air and water.
For a February birthday, a personalised star map charts the stars over the place someone was born, on the night itself, and the preview is free.
