About this print
Eight phases of the Moon in fine gold line on deep ink - a quiet, exact calendar of the night.
The Moon goes through its eight phases in about 29.5 days: new, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full, waning gibbous, last quarter and waning crescent. Seen from the UK, a waxing Moon is lit on the right and a waning one on the left, and this print follows that order.
It is drawn in fine gold line on deep ink. If you are checking any moon print before you buy, the order and the lit side are the two things to look at, and this one is drawn to get both right.
It is a long, narrow composition that suits a hallway, above a bed, or a pair with Watercolour Moon.
The Moon rises about 50 minutes later each day on average. That is why a waxing crescent is an evening sight and a waning crescent a dawn one, while the full Moon rises at sunset and stays up all night.
