Star maps for births, weddings and anniversaries

It's computed for the place and the time you pick, and the time is read as local to that place. Only the stars above the horizon there at that moment are shown.

A birth

Enter the place of birth, the date, and the time from the birth record if you have it. The name can go in the title, up to 40 characters.

A wedding

Enter the venue, the wedding date and the time of the ceremony. The place and date are printed beneath the chart.

Our first Christmas together

Enter the place you spent it and 25 December of that year. The time starts at 21:00 and can be changed to the hour you remember.

The night we got engaged

Enter where it happened, the date, and the time as close as you can recall it.

An anniversary or the night we met

Enter the town or venue, the date and the evening hour.

Buying for someone else too? The space gifts collection has the rest of the list, and the constellation prints are decorative charts of the constellations, not a real night.

A quiet harbour at night, plain moored boats on still water, the Milky Way rising over the hills behind.
A birth, a wedding, a first night somewhere new: the chart is the sky above that place at that minute.

A worked example

Example star map made with our star-map renderer: the sky over Greenwich, London, at 00:00 UTC on 1 January 2026, titled A New Year
Example Greenwich, London, 00:00 UTC on 1 January 2026, made with our star-map renderer.

This chart was made from four entries: the place, Greenwich, London; the date, 1 January 2026; the time, 00:00; and the title, A New Year. In winter, Greenwich local time is UTC, so 00:00 there is 00:00 UTC.

It shows stars above Greenwich's mathematical horizon, using 5,044 J2000 catalogue positions with magnitudes up to 6.0 from the d3-celestial dataset. New charts correct for precession and nutation, with north up and east on the left in an overhead view. They omit proper motion, atmospheric refraction, terrain, weather, daylight visibility, the Moon and planets.

The supported range is 1900 to 2100. Independent star-position checks cover selected dates in 1900, 2000, 2026 and 2050; 2100 is not independently benchmarked. These are modelled keepsakes rather than precision pointing charts. Older saved charts retain their original model and orientation.

The centre of the circle is directly overhead; the rim is the horizon. The chart is calculated from the star catalogue for your chosen place and moment. When you order, we make the print from the saved place, date, time and title at your chosen print size. Check those details in the watermarked preview before paying.

Ordering a star map

What is a personalised star map?

A chart of the sky over the place you choose, at the date and local time you choose: a birth, a wedding, the night you met. The stars are computed for that place and moment, not drawn as decoration.

How can I create a custom star map?

Type the place, pick the date and the time local to that place, and add a title if you want one. Generate the free preview, choose a size, then add it to the basket and pay by Stripe.

What should I check before ordering?

Check the place, date and time local to that place. An optional title can contain up to 40 characters. Generate the watermarked preview, check the title and the place and date beneath the chart, then choose your print size before paying. After payment, the order goes to the printer automatically.

Can I put two moments on one print?

Yes. Choose the two-moment layout, then enter each place, local date and time separately. Add a short caption for each moment and an optional shared title. This layout is offered only on suitable portrait posters and framed prints with readable captions, or as a 3000 × 4200 pixel download. The same product size has the same price as a single chart; your eligible sizes and prices appear after the preview.

A wooden bench on a grassy hilltop under a sky full of stars, a distant town glowing on the horizon.
Any date from 1900 to 2100, at the place and minute you choose.

Can I get a print of the night sky on a specific date?

Yes. Enter the place, the date and the time local to that place, and the chart shows the stars that were above the horizon there at that moment. Any date from 1900 to 2100 works, past or future.

Can you show me a star map of my birth date?

Yes. Put in the town or hospital where you were born, the date, and the time from the birth certificate if you have it. The preview shows the sky that night, free, before you decide whether to print it.

Can I make a star map for a future wedding date?

Yes. Future dates are supported within the 1900 to 2100 date range; the preview checks your chosen moment before you order. Enter the wedding venue, planned date and ceremony time, using the time local to the venue. The time starts at 21:00, so change it to match the ceremony.

Can I give a star map as a Christmas present?

Yes. Choose a night that matters to them, such as the day they were born, the night you met or the night you got engaged, and generate the free preview before you pay. If you do not know their moment, the space gifts collection has ready-made astronomy plates.

Can I get a star map for free?

The preview is free, up to three a day, and it carries a watermark. The print or file you buy doesn’t.

How much do custom star maps cost?

Poster from £22.99, Framed poster from £74.99, Canvas from £85.00, Framed canvas from £119.99, Metal print from £119.99, Wood print from £99.99, Digital download from £14.99. The digital download is emailed.

How accurate the star map is

A small dome observatory at the end of a frosty garden, its slit open to a starry winter sky.
The chart is calculated from catalogue positions, not drawn by eye.

How accurate is it, and why 5,044 stars?

The chart plots the 5,044 catalogue stars bright enough to see with the naked eye on a dark night, placed for your exact place and minute. Charts that quote millions of stars are counting ones far too faint to see without a telescope; on a print they add texture, not accuracy.

How is it made?

New charts use a 5,044-star J2000 catalogue, with magnitudes up to 6.0, and correct for precession and nutation at your chosen moment. The overhead view has north up and east on the left. It shows stars above the mathematical horizon, without the Moon, planets, refraction, proper motion, weather or daylight visibility. Older saved charts retain their original calculation. Preview it free before you buy.

What happens when the clocks change?

Use the time local to your selected place. A time skipped when clocks move forward is rejected; choose a time that existed. When an hour repeats as clocks move back, we use its later occurrence. The selected UTC instant and place timezone are saved with your design.

What is a star map called?

A star chart or sky chart. A planisphere is a rotating version for any night of the year; a personalised star map like this one is fixed to a single place and moment.
