If your birthday is in April before 20 April, your star sign is Aries. From 20 April onwards it is Taurus. The changeover can move by a day in some years, so for a birthday right on 20 April it's worth checking the year.
April zodiac sign dates
- Aries: 21 March to 19 April
- Taurus: 20 April to 20 May
Where the Sun really is in April
The Sun is in Pisces until about 18 April and only reaches the stars of Aries in the last days of the month. Almost every April birthday has the Sun in Pisces, even though the sign is Aries or Taurus.
The April gap between sign and constellation comes from the slow wobble of the Earth's axis. The zodiac signs and constellations guide explains why Aries and Taurus have drifted, and Ophiuchus is the one the signs leave out.
What is in the April evening sky
In April Leo is high in the south after dark and Virgo is rising behind it. Bright Arcturus appears low in the east later in the evening.
Aries and Taurus in the sky
The brightest point of Aries is Hamal, and of Taurus, Aldebaran. Both are drawn in the series of twelve Aries constellation print and Taurus constellation print, in near-black, gold and warm ivory.
Aries and Taurus belong to different elements: the zodiac elements guide sorts all twelve signs into fire, earth, air and water.
