About this print
The instant of total solar eclipse: a black sun ringed by silver corona against a bruised indigo sky.
A total solar eclipse is the only time the Sun's corona, its thin outer atmosphere, can be seen with the eye. For a few minutes the Moon covers the bright disc exactly and the silver streamers appear around a black circle.
The eclipse of 12 August 2026 was total across northern Spain and a deep partial from the UK. The next total eclipse on the British mainland is in September 2090, so for most people this is a print of something they travelled for.
The high contrast makes it one of the strongest prints in the range at small sizes: it holds its shape even at A4.
During totality the air cools, birds go quiet and the brightest stars and planets come out. The longest totality possible is a little over seven minutes; most last two or three.
