About this print
The Orion Nebula - the nearest stellar nursery to Earth, glowing in rose and slate beneath the Hunter's belt.
The Orion Nebula is the fuzzy middle "star" of Orion's sword, the nearest large stellar nursery to Earth at about 1,344 light years. From the UK you can see it without binoculars on a dark winter night, below the three stars of the belt.
It is painted in rose and slate rather than the hard colours of a telescope photograph. It pairs naturally with Andromeda or Galactic Core, and the soft palette suits a bedroom or a reading corner.
At the heart of the nebula is the Trapezium, a tight group of four bright young stars whose light makes the gas glow. In a small telescope they show as a little four-sided figure in the middle of the cloud.
