About this print
A vintage-style chart of the northern sky: Ursa Major to Cassiopeia, etched like an 18th-century celestial atlas.
Every figure on this chart is circumpolar from the UK: Ursa Major with the Plough, Ursa Minor with Polaris, Cassiopeia, Cepheus and Draco never set here, so they are up on every clear night of the year.
The style follows 18th-century celestial atlases, where the old figures were engraved over the stars. It is a decorative chart of the constellations; for the sky over one place on one night, the personalised star map is the one to choose.
Because they never set, these are the constellations to learn first. The two end stars of the Plough's bowl point to Polaris, and Cassiopeia's W sits on the opposite side of the pole, so when one is low the other is high.
