If it's the object (the craters, the terminator line, the texture), a single lunar study is the piece, and it wants to be large enough to hold detail. If it is the cycle, a phases chart is the obvious answer and it does something a single image cannot: it turns the moon into a pattern, which reads well as a horizontal piece above a bed or a desk. And if there is a specific night in it, that is a different object again: a sky chart for that date rather than a picture of the moon at all.
