About this print
Bands of storm the size of worlds. Jupiter's clouds in ochre, cream and rust, the Great Red Spot turning.
The Great Red Spot is a storm wider than the Earth that has been watched since at least the 1830s. It has been shrinking for over a century, so the version on any print is a moment in a slowly changing storm.
It is drawn in ochre, cream and rust, based on the planet's real banding. Jupiter is the easiest planet to find from a British garden when it is up: brighter than any star, and steady in a way stars are not.
Jupiter takes about 12 years to go round the Sun, so it moves into a new zodiac constellation roughly once a year. It spins faster than any other planet, once in under ten hours, which is why it bulges at the equator in a telescope.
